Photographer Stephen Anderson joins Paw Paw’s Medicine Cabinet at Studio in the Country

In the spring of 2018 photographer and contributor to The Southland Music Line, Stephen “Andy” Anderson, joined the band Paw Paw’s Medicine Cabinet and producer Rick Hirsch for a series of photos to be taken at the legendary Studio in the Country in Washington Parish, Louisiana (near Bogalusa).

Paw Paw’s Medicine Cabinet is presently working on their follow up to 2017’s “The Great Room” and “Somebody Else’s Dream”.

In 2017, The Southland Music Line featured this successful band from southern Alabama in the article “Taking Flight with Paw Paw’s Medicine Cabinet”. The article was one of our most read that year. Since that time, Anderson has taken numerous photos of the band and he and I have both attended several shows featuring the entire band or its individual members.

The popularity of Paw Paw’s Medicine Cabinet continues to climb with a promising future in their grasps. Recording at this studio is a definite highlight for any up and coming band or musician.

Studio in the Country’s history easily makes it one of the most cherished studios in America. The 70’s rock classics – “Carry On Wayward Son” from 1976’s “Leftoverture” and the top ten hit “Dust in the Wind” from 1977’s “Point of No Return” by Kansas were all recorded at Studio in the Country. If you grew up in the Deep South during the late 70’s to early 80’s you likely heard Louisiana’s Le Roux classic “New Orleans Ladies” and Zebra’s “Who’s Behind the Door”. Both of these well known hits were also recorded there.

Other artists to record at Studio in the Country include: Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Buffet, Neville Brothers, Nitty Gritty Dirty Band, Willie Nelson, Anders Osborne, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Doc Watson, Cinderella, Marilyn Manson, Ani DiFranco, Tony Joe White, Dash Rip Rock, Professor Longhair, Pete Fountain and more.

Most recently, another of our favorite rising bands Darcy Malone and The Tangle recorded “Pure as Gold ” at the studio. Anderson soon thereafter was their exclusive photographer on The Acura Stage at The 2018 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
