When his brother’s girlfriend comes stumbling out of the woods high and mumbling gibberish, Malcolm embarks on a search for his missing sibling that draws him deeper into the dark world of drugs beneath the surface of his rural community.

Production

Written and directed by Wade Patterson and produced by Gavin Brannan & Alan Grove, Poison Tree Blues was shot over the course of three days in Pelahatchie, MS.  When his brother’s girlfriend comes stumbling out of the woods high and mumbling gibberish, Malcolm embarks on a search for his missing sibling that draws him deeper into the dark world of drugs beneath the surface of his rural community.The main camera used in this production was the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera with a set of Rokinon Cine Prime lenses.

The film features a cast entirely from the South-East with a crew completely staffed from Mississippi. With basically no budget to speak of, the film is described as a labor of love for everyone involved. The story serves as a prequel and proof of concept for a feature the filmmakers hope to produce in the near future.

The score was written over two very creatively packed days at Crown Studios and performed by the very talented instrumentalist Kyle Baughman, of Hattiesburg, and Kennedy Webb, of Madison.
