In this first episode of her second season, Ms. Congeniality gets behind the wheel of a hot red Chevy truck at the 2017 Cruisin’ the Coast antique car gathering. Clad in a robin egg blue tutu, Jaimee Dorris delivers her usual campy fare with an episode that offers car enthusiasts visuals of heavy steel. It is the 22nd meeting of Cruisin’, America’s Largest Block Party, with car lovers from as far away as Germany.
For American muscle car devotees in particular there is plenty to see here: a bright orange open-top Ford Bronco of ’70s vintage, a 1950s azure blue Packard Touring Sedan and a pearl white Packard convertible, a 1970s red-orange El Camino SS, and perhaps the piece de resistance of the fall antique car festival–a 1932 hot pepper red “Confederate.”
Ms. Congeniality doesn’t depart from her usual antics that in this episode include a rear-end collision with a parked Ford truck. Aiming to check out another vehicle, one of Cruisin’s many gems, she finds a willing party in the lady owner of a red and black striped rag top Mustang with white leather bucket seats. “See you in Pensacola!” she teases. Not!
Several short interviews with car owners, a clip by a live band performing ’70s standards, and Dorris’s many goofball moments including a bit of dance make this nostalgic, week-long block party along the Gulf Coast–Ocean Springs, Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis, and several other stops–a light and fun-filled event.
