Get ready for the world of Bright, a new Netflix Original Film, starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. Bringing what fans of legendary table top role playing game Shadow Run love to the screen, Bright is an urban fantasy action crime thriller directed by David Ayer, where Smith’s new LAPD partner is an Orc.
The premise of the film is that on an alternate Earth, where humans and fairytale creatures exist, Human LAPD officer Daryl Ward (Will Smith) and Orc Deputy Nick Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine patrol night, only to discover an ancient but powerful artifact that was thought to be destroyed and encounter a darkness that will ultimately alter the future and their world as they know it.
There’s no doubting that inspiration for the story and visuals are pulled straight from the games played by this genre’s fans. We haven’t seen an urban fantasy film in quite some time, but Bright looks to be a great mix of what we love about cop dramas and fantasy.
